If you use a Fitbit with an iPhone, your Fitbit activity is managed through the Google Health app.

Where supported, Google Health can connect with Apple Health, allowing your health and activity information to be shared between the two services.

Once your step data is available in Apple Health, GoVida can read your steps from Apple Health.

The connection is:

Fitbit → Google Health → Apple Health → GoVida

Step 1 – Make sure your Fitbit is syncin

Open the Google Health app on your iPhone.

Check that your latest Fitbit activity and steps are showing.

Your Fitbit normally syncs automatically when it is nearby and you open Google Health.

If your latest steps aren’t showing, pull down on the Google Health Today screen to trigger a manual sync before continuing.

Step 2 – Connect Google Health to Apple Health

In the Google Health app:

  1. Tap Connections in the top-left.
  2. Select Apps and services.
  3. Under Add connections, select Apple Health.
  4. Tap Get started.
  5. On the Sync Google Health with Apple Health screen, tap Agree.
  6. Follow the Apple Health prompts to choose the health and fitness information you want to share.
  7. Make sure Steps is enabled where the option is available.
  8. Tap Allow, followed by Done.

Google Health and Apple Health should now be connected.

Step 3 – Check your Apple Health permissions

You can check the connection directly from Apple Health.

Open the Health app on your iPhone and go to:

Sharing → Apps → Google Health

Check the permissions granted to Google Health.

If Steps is available as a permission, make sure it is enabled.

Step 4 – Check your steps in Apple Health

Before connecting GoVida, it’s worth checking that your step data is actually reaching Apple Health.

Open the Apple Health app.

Find:

Steps

Check whether your recent step activity is showing.

Are your Fitbit steps showing?

Yes → Great. You can now connect Apple Health to GoVida.

No → Return to Google Health and check your Apple Health connection and permissions.

If Google Health is connected but Fitbit steps still aren’t being written to Apple Health, the Google Health → Apple Health export functionality may not yet be available for your account or version of Google Health.

Step 5 – Connect Apple Health to GoVida

Once your steps are showing in Apple Health, open the GoVida app.

  1. Open Profile in the top-right of the GoVida app.
  2. Select Trackers.
  3. Find Apple Health.
  4. Tap the link icon next to Apple Health.
  5. Apple Health will open and ask which information GoVida can access.
  6. Select Turn All Categories On, or make sure the categories you want GoVida to use are enabled.
  7. Tap Allow.

Return to GoVida once you’ve completed the permissions.

Step 6 – Select Apple Health as your GoVida tracker

Go back to:

GoVida → Profile → Trackers

Select Apple Health as the source for your steps and activity.

Make sure the relevant footsteps and activity icons are highlighted.

You’re connected!

Your data flow should now be:

Fitbit → Google Health → Apple Health → GoVida

My Fitbit steps aren’t showing in GoVida – what should I check?

The easiest way to find the problem is to work through the connection in order.

1. Are your steps showing in Google Health?

Open Google Health and check today’s steps.

No → Sync your Fitbit with Google Health first.

Yes → Continue to the next check.

2. Are your Fitbit steps showing in Apple Health?

Open Apple Health and check Steps.

No → Check the Google Health → Apple Health connection and permissions.

If the permissions are correct but Fitbit steps still don’t appear, Google Health may not yet support exporting your Fitbit step data to Apple Health on your account.

Yes → Continue to the next check.

3. Is GoVida connected to Apple Health?

Open:

GoVida → Profile → Trackers

Check that Apple Health is connected and selected for Steps.

4. Does GoVida have permission to read Steps?

Check your Apple Health permissions for GoVida and make sure Steps access is enabled.

Then reopen GoVida and allow your activity to refresh.

How can I check whether Google Health is connected to Apple Health?

Open the Google Health app and go to:

Connections → Apps and services

Apple Health should appear under your connected services.

You can also check from Apple Health:

Apple Health → Sharing → Apps → Google Health

This allows you to review the health-data permissions you’ve granted to Google Health.

Why are my Fitbit steps in Google Health but not Apple Health?

Google is introducing expanded two-way sharing between Google Health and Apple Health.

This includes the ability for Google Health to write fitness information such as Steps to Apple Health.

However, this functionality is still being rolled out. If your Google Health app doesn’t provide the option to share Steps with Apple Health, make sure Google Health and iOS are fully updated.

If the option still isn’t available, you may need to wait until Google enables the functionality for your account.

What iPhone version do I need?

Google currently requires iOS 16.4 or later to connect Google Health with Apple Health.

You should also make sure you have the latest versions of:

  • Google Health
  • GoVida
  • iOS

Can you see your Fitbit steps in Apple Health?

If no, the issue is between Google Health and Apple Health.

If yes, but the steps aren’t appearing in GoVida, check the Apple Health → GoVida permissions and your tracker selection in GoVida.
